November 2, 2010 was the "political" affiliation change in Coryell County from a mix of Democratic and Republican officeholders, to all elected county officials being affiliated with the Republican Party.

But the work is not over. Tough decisions and choices are still to be made in the finances of the County and the State.

Our current Legislative session has just begun and many cuts in agencies and services will be necessary and also the big decision of how to draw lines in the re-districting process. The County is also at work to redraw commissioner's boundary lines. There may be a need to make changes in precincts along with those changes.

The Republicans have a Super Majority in the House, therefore all the legislative issues that are being presented by Republicans will probably pass in the House, however, that is not true in the Senate. They still utilize the "Blocker Rule", which means that 2/3rds of the Senate has to vote "yes" on a matter, or it can be blocked. We need to be on top of the important issues to make certain that all consideration is being given to the important legislation and encourage our Senator to make certain he votes in a representative manner.

As for a redistricting, the current "feeling" is that we may stay in the same House District, however, we may be placed in a different Senate District, and of course we will undoubtedly be placed in another Congressional District.

Our party goal in 2011 is to get more people involved in the voting process. We need everyone to be registered and then turn out to vote. Elections are getting to be a greater expense to the State and the County and we need to utilize this privilege to the fullest. We need to especially encourage the voters in Copperas Cove to turn out so that our County will be properly reflected in the vote totals and draw more attention from our elected officials. We continue to encourage all of you to talk to your friends and neighbors and encourage them to vote in every election, and make it a regular habit
